Reiki (pronounced ray-key) means "universal life energy". It is a Japanese system of healing which promotes all aspects of well-being. It was reintroduced to the world by Dr. Mikao Usua, a Christian monk in Japan, who came upon ancient manuscripts revealing the healing system in the 19th century. The technique involves transmitting life energy by placing the hands gently in different positions either on or above the body. It is a form of healing touch that conducts energy from the universe through the giver to the receiver.
